Looking for their second win in three UEFA Champions League contests, Manchester United hosted Real Sociedad on Wednesday at Old Trafford. Previously defeating Bayer Leverkusen before drawing with Shakhtar Donetsk, the Red Devils were looking to add 3 points to their resume as they hoped to take control of Champions League Group A. Taking on a Real Sociedad club that dropped the only two league matches played in 2013 - falling 2-0 to Shakhtar and 2-1 to Leverkusen, La Real had hopes of pulling off a major upset in Manchester since a loss would make it nearly impossible for the club to make progress in the Champions League.

While the San Sebastian club entered the match optimistic about their chances, it didn't take long for the Group A affiliates to stare adversity right in the face. When Inigo Martinez accidentally popped one through the back of the Sociedad net in the second minute of the match, Manchester United went ahead in quick fashion thanks to a gift own-goal by the La Real defender. The score would stay the same for the remainder of the opening half with Man U controlling the offensive flow of the contest despite the fact that they were unable to notch an offensive goal of their own. Firing off 14 shots in the opening 45 minutes - 4 of which made their way towards La Real keeper Claudio Bravo - the Red Devils displayed their ability to earn ample opportunity even though only one goal remained on the scoreboard at the break.

The second half proved to be more of the same as both teams struggled to find the back of the net while Manchester United controlled the time of offensive possession. A late chance for Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young in the box was broken up by Bravo in the 86th minute, creating one of the few true scoring opportunities for both squads in the second 45 minutes.

Watching their team hang on for its second victory in three Champions League matches, fans at Old Trafford on Wednesday were pleased to see the Red Devils depart the pitch with an additional three points while remaining atop Group A. Manchester United's next Champions League contest will come at Real Sociedad on November 5.
