A 48-year-old Indian man who stabbed his wife for cooking ‘tasteless’ Kebabs allegedly killed himself following the attack over fears of being thrashed by villagers.
The deceased accused, identified as Suresh M. attempted to kill his 42-year-old wife, Shalini by attacking her with an iron rod and knife during an argument at their rented home in Arekere Layout of Bengaluru City, on July 27 night.
The couple, who hails from the Kodagu district of Karnataka, had come to the city a few years ago and have been working in different garment factories in Bommanahalli, the New Indian Express reported. They have two kids.
On the night of the tragedy, Suresh returned home from work and asked his wife to cook Kebab as he wanted to have drinks (alcohol) at home.
Suresh was reportedly in an inebriated state when his wife brought him the Kebab he ordered. After tasting the dish, Suresh complained that it was not fried enough.
This gave way to a heated argument between the couple and in a fit of rage Suresh allegedly attacked Shalini with an iron rod and slashed her hands with a kitchen knife.
Suresh fled the scene on foot as neighbors rushed to the home after hearing Shalini’s repeated screams for help.
She was taken to a nearby private hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment, reports said.
The police began an investigation and issued a manhunt for Suresh after hospital staff alerted them of the medico-legal case.
Suresh was later found hanging dead from a branch of a tree in an abandoned building site, reports said. Police believe Suresh hanged himself over fears of being thrashed by the angry villagers.
The body was brought down and sent to a medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. A further probe is underway.
In another incident, a man who allegedly killed his mother for preparing undercooked potatoes in Mumbai, India in 2011 got his sentence reduced after his conviction was changed to culpable homicide by the Bombay High Court.
The accused, Naresh Pawar, and his mother Ekabai, who worked in a brick kiln in Kalyan, were at home
when she served him brinjal and potatoes for dinner,
Pawar noticed that the potatoes were undercooked and realized he had also eaten brinjal for lunch. Enraged over the undercooked potatoes and the lack of variety in the dishes, Pawar questioned his mother about why she had not cooked fish for dinner. In a fit of rage, Pawar then allegedly picked up an iron rod and whacked the victim in the back with the instrument.
During the trial, the court at Kalyan found Pawar guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Pawar spent nine years in jail time after which he lodged an appeal to alter the conviction to culpable homicide.
