Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo overshadowed Old Trafford's win against West Ham as he gained public attention and criticism following his reaction on being substituted during their winning game against Brentford Wednesday.
The Portuguese star player dominated the victory due to his response after lasting 90 minutes before being substituted with Harry Maguire in their Wednesday game with the Brentford. The 36-year-old, who just returned from a hip injury, failed to impress many, including former English footballer and Sky Sports Pundit Paul Merson. During Gillette Soccer Saturday post-match, the former Arsenal man said, "He did not do very well. He did a couple of good things, he passed the ball to Martial (which led to the goal) but they don't really play to his strengths."
"You have got to get the ball in the box for Ronaldo but I do not see anybody knocking them into the air. Every cross is low and it is shallow, it is never up for him to attack and nobody jumps higher than Ronaldo in my opinion."
"It was not great but he stayed on and knitted a couple of things together and as I say for the goal, he is the one who comes short and played a little ball to Martial and they were away down the left. It wasn't a great performance but United just need to get in the top four," Merson added.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils moved up into fourth place in the Premier League table during their Saturday's 1-0 win against West Ham; Marcus Rashford scored the game's only goal.
The interim boss Ralf Rangnick also pointed out the importance of beating the teams as Man Utd was in the top four for the first time since October. Seemingly, Man Utd are restarting to build their momentum back towards the Champions League. Meanwhile, Rangnick is believed to take home half a million pounds bonus if the team reaches the Champions League. However, his permanent position in Man Utd is not expected to happen.
PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, Spain manager Luis Enrique, Ajax's Eric ten Hag and Europa League-winning Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui are the coaches under consideration.
After suffering from a series of defeats, reports about some players wanting a transfer out of Old Trafford has emerged. French professional footballer Anthony Martial has reportedly closed a loan deal to move to Sevilla. Regarding the upcoming transfer window, no doubt Man Utd is also considering closing deals with other players; they are claimed to be at the top of the line in the pursuit of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
