An Indian man attempted to perform surgery on himself after watching YouTube videos, but was rushed to the hospital in critical condition when his self-inflicted incision led to excessive bleeding.
Rajababu Kumar, a 32-year-old banquet hall owner, had been suffering from persistent stomach pain, which he believed was related to a past appendix surgery, the Times of India reported.
Instead of seeking professional medical help, he turned to the internet, gathering information on surgical procedures from YouTube. On Wednesday evening in Mathura, India, he locked himself in a room and attempted to operate on himself using a surgical blade and numbing agent.
Rajababu reportedly made a seven-inch incision on the lower right side of his abdomen, but soon realized he had cut deeper than intended. As the pain and bleeding intensified, he unsuccessfully attempted to stitch the wound himself using 10 to 12 incorrect sutures.
When he could no longer bear the pain, he alerted his family, who rushed him to Mathura District Hospital. Due to his critical condition, doctors transferred him to a larger medical facility in Agra for further treatment.
Rajababu remains in a serious condition under medical supervision. Doctors have since properly sutured his wound, but he continues to recover from the trauma and blood loss.
Local police were notified of the incident by hospital authorities, but no legal action has been taken. His family remains in shock, questioning why he resorted to such extreme measures instead of consulting a doctor.
