A man allegedly slit the throat of his married sister with a sickle over suspicion that she was having an extra-marital affair in Surat, Gujarat, India on Monday, Feb. 14.
The accused, identified as a 22-year-old man named Karan Vasava, was arrested by police officers on Wednesday, Feb. 16, two days after he used a sickle to mercilessly attack his 25-year-old sister. He reportedly slashed her throat with the tool after an argument ensued between them over her alleged extra-marital affair, the Indian Express reported.
Vasava, who worked as a farmhand, had reportedly been staying with his sister for the past five months. Ten days before the incident, the victim's husband and her two children went to visit his sister in the neighboring Kathor village. A brutal confrontation reportedly escalated between the siblings after the two of them were alone at home, resulting in the gruesome attack.
Following the knifing, the bleeding victim rushed out of the home and sought her neighbor's help. The neighbors then transported the victim to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment. The woman arrived at the health facility just in time for doctors to attempt life-saving measures. She is reportedly now in a stable condition.
Following the incident, the police tracked down the suspect and arrested him on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
In a similar but unrelated incident, an Indian man identified as Bapu Kadam, 30, allegedly slashed the throat of his mother Praubai, 50, with a sickle after a heated confrontation erupted between them in Beed district, Maharashtra, India on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021.
Kadam then reportedly left his mother in a pool of her own blood, fled their house, and hanged himself on a farm in the nearby Malipargaon village of Beed district, Latin Times reported.
Paubai's family members and neighbors immediately rushed to the house after they heard the woman's cries for help and found the woman gasping for air. Praubai was rushed to a Majalgaon-based government hospital by neighbors where she received initial treatment. She was later moved to Beed Civil Hospital after her health condition started to deteriorate and reportedly underwent treatment at the health facility in critical condition.
Kadam who had immediately fled the house after the incident was later found dead and hanging from a tree in one of the farms in Malipargaon village.
