A man allegedly brutally slit the throats of his wife and his mother-in-law before killing himself by jumping in front of a running train in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India on Feb. 26.
The accused, identified as 35-year-old Sonu Kumar, a resident of Jaspur in Uttarakhand, who worked as a sales executive at a private company, has been accused of heinously slashing the throats of his 29-year-old wife Nishu and his 55-year-old mother-in-law Janki Devi in a gruesome murder on Feb. 26. After killing the two, he fled the scene and allegedly jumped in front of an oncoming train in Kavi Nagar in order to take his own life, the Times Of India reported.
“Sonu slit the throat of his wife and mother-in-law with a knife and fled to Haridwar with a colleague named Pankaj. From Haridwar, he fled to Ghaziabad. On Tuesday, we came to know from the Ghaziabad police that Sonu killed himself by jumping in front of a train. We have identified the body,” Kamlesh Bhatt, an inspector at the Udham Singh Nagar Police Station, said.
Following the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Sonu under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Udham Singh Nagar Police Station.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Sonu was in an extra-marital relationship with his sister-in-law Pinky. However, when Pinky's parents wanted to arrange her marriage to someone else, the woman told them about her relationship with Sonu. This led to discord between the couple which is believed to have ultimately led to the gruesome murder-suicide.
The authorities reportedly recovered a suicide note and some other documents from Sonu's body. In the letter, Sonu reportedly he blamed his sister-in-law Pinky for his death.
Sonu married Nishu in 2014 and the couple has two sons and one daughter.
