A man from South Carolina has surrendered to authorities after reportedly setting his girlfriend on fire tied to a domestic violence case. The man was identified as 28-year-old Larry Dean Brown Jr. who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and then poured gasoline on her before setting her on fire.
According to a report by WBTW, Brown had initially attacked the unnamed woman with a liquor bottle before setting her on fire. The woman was able to jump into a bathtub and put out the fire. She still managed to drive herself to the hospital for treatment. She would, later on, be transferred to the Augusta Burn Center.
"Because of the severity of her injuries, the victim wasn’t able to provide emergency room personnel any specific details about the incident as they initially treated her and then transferred her to the Augusta Burn Center," an official statement read.
The whole incident happened on Dec. 16 after the brother of the victim notified authorities that his sister was a victim of domestic violence and arson incident from Dec. 6.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) deputies issued a warrant for Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature and Arson – First Degree for Brown on Dec. 17, Fox Carolina reported. Brown turned himself in on Dec. 20.
Authorities add that the woman is expected to survive despite her injuries. However, she will have permanent scarring and will face a long road to recovery.
"Our investigator was able to talk to the victim over the phone and also enlisted the aid of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office to take a detailed statement from the victim and also photograph her injuries."
Brown appeared before a magistrate on Dec. 21. Bond for Brown has been deferred for now and is expected to be set once he appears before a Circuit Court Judge.
