A Brazilian man has been reported to have undergone emergency surgery after he inserted a 2-kilogram dumbbell into his rectum in an attempt to pleasure himself.
The unidentified 54-year-old man reportedly turned up at a hospital in Manaus, Brazil complaining about severe abdominal pain, nausea, and being unable to defecate. It was subsequently found out that the man had shoved a dumbbell into his anus for sexual purposes.
He allegedly waited two days before seeking medical attention after he failed to extract the dumbbell himself. The man reportedly experienced a variety of symptoms including “cramping, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting in small volume,” and even constipation, New York Post reported.
The disturbing case was reportedly published last week in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.
Even though doctors performed an initial anal examination on the man, they failed to immediately realize what was causing the symptoms. The physicians then decided to scan the man's lower body with an X-ray. After this, they discovered an 8-inch-long dumbbell lodged at the intersection of the man's colon and rectum, like a cumbersome sex toy.
Doctors determined that the infiltration was of a “sexual nature” and decided that they had to act fast to prevent the dumbbell from causing anal “perforation” or another “severe injury.” Meanwhile, the doctors stated in the report that the patient was reportedly “uncooperative” during the entire procedure, the Daily Mail reported.
Medics then sedated the man and attempted to extract the dumbbell using surgical tweezers. However, they did not succeed in removing the obstruction. Since they were left with no other option, the medical team opted to manually extract the dumbbell, which involved a surgeon shoving their "forearm" into the man's rectum.
The manual extraction of the dumbbell turned out to be successful and the man was discharged after spending three days in the hospital. The man is expected to suffer no long-term complications from the disturbing and horrifying experience. However, the authors of the report stated that similar other cases can result in internal injuries and fecal incontinence.
According to a study conducted among doctors, the majority of patients admitted with retained rectal objects are white men between 20 years of age and 40 years of age.
