Following the disappearance of 19-year-old Ayazhan Yedilova on March 19 police launched a search for the missing woman.
On March 22 the search came to a tragic end as her head was found being boiled in the home of a suspected serial killer. Police arrested a 28-year-old man from a flat in Almaty, Kazakhstan where they found body parts belonging to the young woman and possibly another victim.
The beautician’s family reported her missing after she failed to return home. The police tracked down a suspect and entered his flat. Before they entered his flat, he unsuccessfully tried to kill himself.
The Daily Star reported that the police arrested a man identified as Ruslan. Before going missing, Yedilova was last spotted with the man. Footage from the suspect’s building elevator revealed that he was with the victim on the day of her disappearance. The victim did not appear to be in any form of distress in the surveillance video.
It is believed that she was attacked by the man after being taken to his apartment. He may have raped her following which he murdered her. He told the police that he had dismembered the victim to get rid of the body.
Inside the apartment, the police found Yedilova’s head boiling in a pot. The flesh had been boiled off of the skull. Her nails and teeth had been removed, it is unclear if this was done after her death or while she was alive. Some parts of the victim’s body were found in the apartment while some were found in trash cans nearby. The police believe that the man could be a serial killer as body parts that did not belong to Yedilova were also found at the scene.
According to Zakhon, the victim’s family wants the authorities to perform a DNA test to confirm the identity of the victim. They claim that the police did not respond to their missing person's complaint on time. There are clashing claims on why the victim was with the suspect. Some claim that even though she had a boyfriend, Yedilova had met the attacker on a dating site. While her family said that the woman met the suspect who pretended to be a client.
