In a shocking love story, an Indian man eloped with his much older mother-in-law and got married. But the two were arrested by Uttar Pradesh police in order to avoid any clash.
The 50-year-old woman and her 25-year-old husband were arrested by police in UP’s Muzaffarnagar, reported The Times Of India. The couple returned home in Muzaffarnagar’s Mudbhar village on Wednesday after fleeing about 10 months ago due to protests from their family.
When they returned to the village, they told their family that they had registered their marriage in a court. The couple also wanted to stay together. The news didn't go down well with the family members and soon, a fight erupted. The family members also gained support of the villagers.
A police team from Bhora Kalan area reached the village after being informed about the fight. The couple were then taken into custody.
Station house officer (SHO) Jitendar Tevatia said, “To prevent a clash, the couple were booked and sent to jail. A case was registered under section 151 of CrPC. Further investigation is on into the matter.” Under this section, police can arrest anyone without a warrant if they think there might be an urgent threat to public safety or order. Police are required to produce the accused before a magistrate within 24 hours of the arrest.
In a separate incident, police recently caught a woman and her brother-in-law after they abandoned their children and eloped. Aishwarya, who hails from Kerala, and her sister's husband Sanjith were arrested by police from Madurai, reported Mathrubhumi. Sanjith has two kids while Aishwarya has one child.
Police said that Aishwarya's husband filed a complaint in Eravipuram police station and relatives in Kollam West police after they noticed she was missing. Then West Police started investigating with the help of Cyber Cell. They found out that the two were traveling to Madurai via train after booking tickets with fake names. Their photos helped in identification. They were taken to Kollam and handed over to Eravipuram police.
A case was registered against them for leaving behind their children. They were later remanded.
In another incident, police arrested two people from Rohtak last month in connection with a crime in which at least four men fatally shot a 23-year-old man and fired at his 19-year-old wife at the couple’s home in Amberhai village in Dwarka Sector 19, reported Hindustan Times.
