An Indian man allegedly committed suicide after his estranged wife refused to show his son's face during a video call on Friday, Sept. 3, in the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh state, India.
Dinesh Sanodiya, a resident of Chandauli Kala under the Badol Police Station, was reportedly an alcoholic and quite often subjected his wife to domestic abuse. Due to their constant quarrels and the man's recurring assault, his wife left him, taking their son along with her, and went to her parent's place, refusing to return, the Free Press Journal reported.
However, Dinesh constantly tried to convince his wife to return to him. On Friday, Sept. 3, Dinesh reportedly made a video call to his wife in an inebriated state. When his wife refused to talk to him as he was drunk at the time, he asked her to show the face of their son. However, Dinesh's wife proceeded to hang up and turn her phone off to stop him from badgering her with calls.
Following this, Dinesh went to his room and locked himself in. After noticing that he refused to come out for a long time, his family members went to check on him and found him hanging from the ceiling of his room.
“Primary investigation suggests that he was upset as his wife didn’t show the face of his son. According to his mother, he was in an inebriated state. These two might be the reasons behind his extreme steps,” said a police officer.
A case has been registered and the police have started an investigation into the incident.
In a similar but unrelated incident, an Indian man allegedly hung himself at a lodge after his girlfriend left him and live-streamed the incident on social media.
On Aug. 21, Shaik Brahmam, 36, of Prakasham in Andhra Pradesh, India, traveled about 220 miles away from his home and checked into a lodge at Vanasthalipuram in Telangana along with his friend Venugopal, Latin Times reported.
When Venugopal went out, Brahmam started a live stream on social media.
"I loved a girl and was duped by my friends and others. I am ending my life," he said before hanging himself from the ceiling fan.
"Brahmam was facing financial problems as he suffered losses in the transport business. He was also depressed that the woman with whom he was in a relationship, had left him," the police said.
Brahman is survived by his wife and two children.
