A South Carolina man accused of impersonating a police officer was caught on camera harassing Hispanic workers, telling them that they are "going back to Mexico" in a now-viral video.
In the video obtained by Nuestro Estado, a man leans into the open window of a vehicle, berating the two Hispanic men sitting inside for speaking Spanish.
"You got caught! Where you from, you're from Mexico?" the man says, smiling. "You're going back to Mexico."
As the man sitting in the driver's seat asks about moving their car and parking, the suspect leans through the window and takes the keys out of the ignition.
"You have no license," the man says. "You're going back! We got the cops coming. If you don't got a driver's license you can't drive a vehicle, you know that right?"
The man proceeds to try to grab a phone out of the the driver's hands as he attempts to make a phone call, telling him "it's over."
"Hey El Chapo... Don't be speaking that Pig Latin in my f***ing country bro. Don't be speaking that Pig Latin here. This is America, we speak English in America," the man says as the worker in the passenger seat takes the phone and continues the conversation in Spanish.
The video sparked major backlash online, garnering more than 94,000 views on Facebook. The man in the video was later identified by police as 34-year-old Sean Michael-Emmrich Johnson, as reported by WCBD.
Johnson turned himself into police on Friday, and was charged with kidnapping, impersonating a law enforcement officer, fraudulent removal or secreting of personal property and assault and battery.
Police Chief Glenn Meadows of the Sullivan's Island Police Department said that officers had responded to a call about someone allegedly driving without a driver's license, however the video presented new information, the Post and Courier reported.
Johnson was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center, but has since bonded out. His next court date is March 21, as reported by WCSC.
