A man who was sitting in his car was shot and killed while he was talking to his friend on FaceTime in San Bernardino, California on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The victim, identified as 26-year-old Vincent Heredia, was invited to a party in San Bernardino, California on Saturday, Nov. 5 night. Outside the party, while he was sitting in his car talking to a friend on FaceTime and waiting for a woman to come out of the house, a Latino man approached him, pulled his car door open, and shot him dead, Fox News reported.
The friend who was on the video call with Heredia at the time of the shooting said that he saw a Latino man in a dark hoodie pull open Heredia’s car door before shooting him dead.
"I lost my voice, all the crying and grieving of my son," Heredia’s mother, Irene Melgoza, said.
Meanwhile, Heredia’s family members believe that the shooting incident could have been related to an earlier dispute with the father of his friend's child – the same friend the victim was waiting on.
"With the girl, she has a baby daddy, and he had gotten into a fight with my son," Heredia’s father, Mario Melgoza said. "I think the guy wanted revenge for that."
"He was a really good brother and a good guy, and he did not deserve this at all," Adrina Melgoza, Heredia’s sister, said.
Heredia reportedly aspired to go to college and become a parole officer. He lived with his family members and had recently received a promotion as a security guard at nearby Ontario Airport. He leaves behind his parents and three siblings, FOX 11 Los Angeles reported.
The family believes that multiple people witnessed the gruesome shooting incident. They are now asking for the public’s help to identify the killer.
"I'm a mom. I want to know what happened to my son. If anybody knows, I want to know," Heredia’s mother said. "Because I know my baby would want that too."
Following Heredia's death, a GoFundMe page has been created by the victim's family and friends to help pay for his funeral expenses.
