A woman was found dead on Tuesday, Nov. 2, in a hotel in Minnesota in an apparent attempted murder-suicide as her husband, who was found with a bullet wound in the head, was arrested for her killing.
Thirty-four-year-old Ryan Charles Rooney was found on Tuesday by the hotel staff of the Residence Inn with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, lying in a fetal position while close to a small child inside a crib. The hotel staff entered the room after Rooney and his family had stayed in their room beyond their check-out time, Law&Crime reported.
After finding Rooney unconscious on the floor, the hotel staff called the police for help. Rooney’s wife was discovered on the second floor of the room, dead from a gunshot wound in the chest, according to Fox 9.
Rooney was walking upright when police arrived, carrying another small child down the second floor. The wife appeared to have been killed over a day or so before the body was discovered, prompting authorities to question Rooney’s motivations behind the killing.
The two children, aged 1 and 2, were unharmed in the encounter, although one of them was reportedly found to have bloodstains on their body. Two small baggies of what seemed to be methamphetamines were also found at the scene.
Rooney and his wife got married on Aug. 30, and they had been staying in the Residence Inn for over 20 days, with Oct. 31 being their checkout date. Police officers have linked Rooney to a 911 call claiming that a man was waving a gun in the hotel’s parking lot on Oct. 19.
Rooney has admitted that he does not remember why he shot his wife, as police attempt to figure out the motivation for the killing. Rooney is being held in Hennepin County Jail on a $1 million bond.
