An Oregon man died after falling into a meat grinder in Clackamas, Ore. on Saturday. Hugo Avalos-Chanon, 41, of Portland, Ore. was pronounced dead Saturday night at the scene of the accident. Reports said Avalos-Chanon was cleaning a grinding machine with the help of other employees contracted by DCS Sanitation Management.
Avalos-Chanon was working with DCS at the Interstate Meat Distributors on Southeast Last Road in Clackamas. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office officials said Avalos-Chanon fell into the meat grinder while cleaning it, and the other employees rush to depress the emergency shut-off switch. The action to halt the machine was too late to save Avalos-Chanon.
The president of International Meat Distributors, Darrin Hoy, said Avalos-Chanon's death was an "extremely unfortunate incident [he is] not looking forward to reliving through" again.
The Oregon government dispatched the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to investigate the meat grinder accident.
