A Bootle man reportedly tragically died of a heart attack on his 52nd birthday, just three days before his wedding, while he was enjoying a family getaway in Greece on Oct. 19.
Phil Boyd, 52, from Bootle, a dad-of-four, suffered a heart attack in his hotel room and died on his 52nd birthday on Oct. 19 while he was enjoying a family vacation with Lucy Garrett, his partner of 21 years, and his four kids in Kos, Greece, the Daily Mirror reported.
"He had a massive heart attack on his birthday and passed away there and then. He would have been 52 that day," Boyd's friend Beverley Longsden said.
Boyd's family described him as a man who loved his life.
"Boyd was dead easy going and happy, he just loved life. He loved his music and having a sing-along when he was doing a plastering job," they said.
Boyd and Garrett, who reportedly lived in Walsall, West Midlands, England originally planned to get married in Mexico last year. However, their plans were put on hold due to the pandemic.
Last year, in June 2020, Boyd reportedly suffered a similar heart attack and had a stent fitted. Due to this, the couple rescheduled their wedding to take place in Kos, Greece this year. The couple flew out to Greece for their nuptials with their children on Oct. 13, just days before his sudden demise.
Boyd's family is now raising funds to bring his body back home from Greece because his travel insurance company denied covering the expenses claiming that his pre-existing medical condition was not disclosed to the company, Daily Record reported.
Longsden said that Garrett is "broken" since Boyd's sudden demise and described their relationship as a true "love story."
"She met him when she was 16. He was older than her. He worked for the fair and she literally fell hook line and sinker for him and ran away to be with him," Longsden said.
She added that the couple spent every penny enjoying life and were always seen happy and smiling.
Boyd leaves behind his wife-to-be Garrett and his four children, Rebecca, 29; Sophie, 20; Jimmy, 16; and Teddy, 6.
