A man's death in India was recorded on camera when his drunken friends dared him to sit on a box of fireworks.

The 32-year-old man, Shabarish, died tragically on Diwali night, a five-day Hindu celebration, in Bengaluru after agreeing to sit on a box of firecrackers in exchange for an autorickshaw, News24 reported.

CCTV footage captured Shabarish, reportedly intoxicated, sitting on the firecrackers as his friends lit the box and then stepped back.

The firecrackers exploded, and Shabarish collapsed in severe pain. Though his friends rushed him to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on November 2.

Konanakunte police have since arrested six individuals in connection with his death, charging them with culpable homicide. Deputy Commissioner of Police South Lokesh stated that Shabarish, who was unemployed, took the dare hoping to improve his situation with the promised vehicle.

This tragic event underscores the need for increased safety awareness, particularly around festive occasions involving fireworks.
