Authorities have arrested a Maryland man after the body of his child's mother was discovered entombed in concrete behind a newly built wall in his home following her reported disappearance.
On January 14, Alexis Shuler, a 29-year-old mother of three, was reported missing by her family after last being seen getting into 30-year-old Devontae Gray's truck on January 12, Fox 5 reported.
Concerns grew as she failed to contact loved ones, prompting police to investigate Gray's home in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Initial visits noted a suspicious odor but found no immediate evidence of foul play.
Surveillance footage later revealed Gray purchased and transported construction materials, including cement and cinder blocks, in the days following Shuler's disappearance.
A search warrant executed on January 19 uncovered a "makeshift tomb" behind a drywall and faux brick wall under the stairs in his home. Shuler's body was found inside a plastic bin encased in concrete, soil, and hay.
"After removing the drywall, makeshift tomb was discovered under the stairs. There was large plastic bin, wrapped in plastic wrapping, behind large amount of concrete that was poured by the Defendant. After pouring the concrete around the plastic bin, the drywall was placed and faux brick was then placed on the drywall," court documents read.
Gray confessed to shooting her during an argument and attempting to conceal the crime. He is being held without bond on charges of murder, with his next court appearance scheduled for February 19.
Shuler's three children, now left without their mother, are being cared for by her relatives.
