The ceremony for the Nobel Peace Prize took place earlier today in Oslo, Norway, in a star-studded ceremony, attended by actress and host, Queen Latifah, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, and the Norwegian royal family. The two recipients were 17-year-old Malala Yousafzai, the Taliban attack survivor who is the youngest person to receive the prestigious honor ever, and Indian children's rights activist Kailash Satyarthi. When Malala stepped up to receive her award, a young Mexican man who walked up on to the stage with a blood-spattered Mexican flag surprised the entire crowd. The man was immediately dragged of the stage and the only words he uttered were “Mexico, Malala, please… Mexico.”
According to police reports, this is a medical student from Mexico who came to the country last November. Although he was unarmed, the student remains arrested after allegedly having applied for political asylum in Norway yesterday.
Malala Yousafzai remained calm during and after the altercate, and was then joined by fellow prize winner, Kailash Satyarthi, as the ceremony continued its course.
