A man who was caught stealing a car navigation system from an apartment complex parking lot allegedly blamed Vladimir Putin after getting arrested in the Aoba Ward of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday, March 30.

On Wednesday, a bystander spotted a suspicious person rummaging through a parked minivan in an apartment complex parking lot and called the police to alert them regarding the man. Law enforcement immediately responded to the scene after they were alerted about the incident.

At the scene, the police found the man still in the parking lot and in the process of stealing the vehicle’s navigation system. The officers then walked up to the suspect and subsequently arrested him after catching him in the act of theft, Japan Today reported.

Following his arrest, while the man was being questioned by the police regarding the robbery, he admitted to the attempted theft and bizarrely blamed Vladimir Putin for his actions.

“What Russian President Vladimir Putin did was unforgivable,” he told the officers during the interrogation.

When the officers conducted a background check on the owner of the minivan, it was found that the vehicle's owner did not have any connections to Russia. The suspect also seemingly has no direct links to the Russian president. This left the suspect's condemnation of Putin a bit of a conundrum for the investigating officers.

Netizens were also left puzzled by the suspect's seemingly political motivation for stealing the car navigation system, expressing their confusion while sharing reports of the incident.

“I have never not understood something as much as this,” one person wrote.

“Lol, what does Putin have to do with this?” another said.

“The real weirdos always come out when the weather warms up,” expressed another reader.

“Is this like a butterfly effect thing? Russia invades Ukraine and a car navigation system gets stolen in Japan,” a man commented.
