A man reportedly attempted suicide by shooting himself in front of around 100 people at a restaurant in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The man reportedly walked into Hinie’s BBQ restaurant on North Locust Avenue in Lawrenceburg a little before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. After entering the restaurant, he then walked up to a female customer, and ensued into a heated argument with her. After a brief argument, the situation soon escalated. As the argument escalated, the man then allegedly pulled out a gun and attempted suicide by shooting himself twice in front of over 100 people, WSMV 4 Nashville reported.
Within two seconds of the shooting, an off-duty police officer who was at the restaurant secured both the scene and the subject. Following this, the officer, the restaurant staff, and other customers at the restaurant attempted to administer first aid to the wounded man until EMS arrived. The man was then flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition.
According to Hinie’s BBQ, about 100 customers and 30 staff members were inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting incident.
After the shooting, the restaurant got in touch with the Tennessee Disaster Mental Health Strike team and set a meeting to be held on Monday, Nov. 21 for their employees, staff, and for anyone that might have been inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting, News Cesspool reported.
The meeting was set to be held at the North Venue behind Hinie’s BBQ at 3 p.m on Monday, Nov. 21. The Tennessee Disaster Mental Health Strike team announced their presence at the meeting. In addition to this, local pastors, counselors, and members of law enforcement will also be present at the meeting to help administer counseling for those that need it.
“While we go through this, I ask that you please keep our staff and our customers in your prayers while we deal with everything going on,” said Trip, from Hinie’s BBQ.
The restaurant spokesperson added that they will let the public know their plans for reopening after the meeting.
