A man has been accused of heinously attacking his grandmother with a blade and hammer before proceeding to watch television while she bled to death at Korukkupet, Tamil Nadu, India on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
The victim, identified only as 70-year-old Visalakshi, reportedly greeted her 28-year-old grandson, Sathish, with his favorite lunch of fish curry and rice when he visited her home on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
However, when Visalakshi asked Sathish to return the US$1,236 (100,000 Indian Rupees) that his mother Amudha had borrowed from her, the man, in a fit of rage, brutally attacked her and then bolted the doors of her house and watched TV while she bled to death, the Times Of India reported.
Visalakshi had given her daughter Amudha some money to construct a new house four years ago. Amudha had also reportedly borrowed money from others too to build the house. However, after failing to repay her debts, Amudha was forced to sell her new house and settle the loans. After selling the house, she gave US$1,236 (100,000 Indian Rupees) to her mother and promised to return the remaining US$1,236 at the earliest time.
However, when she delayed the payment, Visalakshi began pestering her daughter and grandson several times and demanded they return the money as soon as possible. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, after eating lunch, when Visalakshi asked Sathish to return the money, Sathish, in a fit of rage, allegedly slashed her with a blade and hit her with a hammer, DNA India reported.
Hearing the loud screams and sounds coming from the house, a neighbor went to enquire about the noise. However, Sathish told the neighbor that the sound came from the TV and told him that his grandmother had gone out.
He then locked the house and sat watching TV, while his grandmother, who was severely injured, lay unconscious and bled out. After waiting for a while, he called up his mother and told her that their grandmother had fallen down and injured herself. Following this, Amudha rushed to the house in Korrukupet and took Visalakshi to the Stanley Government Hospital where she was declared dead upon arrival.
Following her death, when police went to Visalakshi's home, Sathish was still watching TV in a drunken state. The RK Nagar police seized the blade and hammer allegedly used to kill Visalakshi, registered a case, and arrested Sathish.
