A man has been accused of heinously pouring acid into the mouth of a 14-year-old girl before proceeding to knife her in the neck after she allegedly resisted his sexual assault attempt in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India on Monday, Sept. 5.
The unnamed 14-year-old victim was reportedly left alone at home on Monday, Sept. 5, after her parents had headed out for work. While teen girl was unattended, the 30-year-old suspect, whose identity has been withheld from the public, reportedly stormed into the victim's house while in an inebriated state. The man allegedly proceeded to force himself on the young girl. However, the underage victim fought against the assault and managed to run into a washroom to escape the accused, Hindustan Times reported.
The suspect reportedly quickly followed her into the washroom and, in a fit of rage, picked up a bottle of acid meant for cleaning the toilet and poured it into the girl's mouth and face. As the girl began screaming in pain, the assailant pulled out a knife and slit her throat before fleeing the spot. The accused, who reportedly recently parted ways with his wife, took off from the residence with stolen cash and the victim's earrings.
Upon hearing the girl's agonizing screams, neighbors rushed to the house to help and found the victim lying in a pool of blood. The neighbors quickly alerted the girl's parents and immediately rushed her to Government General Hospital for treatment. She was later transferred to a private hospital and to a multi-special hospital in Chennai, India for plastic surgery. The girl has reportedly regained consciousness and is now in stable condition, the Hindu reported.
“The condition of the girl is stable at present. Further investigation is going on.” Y Harinath Reddy, deputy superintendent of police Nellore rural said.
Following the incident, the Nellore rural police booked a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 376 read with 511 (attempt to rape) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, against the suspect.
The accused, who was identified as the victims’ maternal uncle, has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
“We will formally arrest him and produce him before the local court for judicial remand on Wednesday,” Nellore superintendent of police Vijaya Rao said on Tuesday.
