A passenger of a white Mercedes showing a license plate that appeared to be registered for another vehicle was fatally shot by a Nashville Police officer on Saturday, after he were stopped at 3236 Clarksville Pike.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) stated during a conference that the man got out of his car with two large butcher knives, one in each hand and began running around erratically as the police officer repeatedly yelled at him to stop and drop the weapons but he continued to charge towards the officer on patrol.

A footage caught by the police officer’s body camera shows how the passenger of the suspicious vehicle was repeatedly warned to get out of the car and drop the knives in his possession.

The passenger, who was not identified sustained three gunshots from the officer after the failed attempt to stop him from charging with the knives. He died shortly after being brought to Vanderbilt Medical Center, according to Fox News.

A tweet from MNPD also stated that the TBI has lead an investigation concerning the midnight police shooting on Clarksville Pike, in which North Precinct Officer Christopher Royer, a four-year veteran fatally wounded a man who was charging at him armed with 2 butcher knives.

“Our police department will also be conducting an administrative review of this interaction to ensure that it meets the high standards expected of our officers," police spokesman Don Aaron concluded.

The MNPD chief John Drake said, “No officer wants to deal with this type of situation as officer Roy encountered tonight." During the same conference, it was concluded that the officer involved in the shooting did everything that he could but he was left with no other choice. He also stated that the body camera video does not show how the five other officers later arrived at the scene and rendered aid to the individual after he was shot.

In a related development, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murder and manslaughter of George Floyd last May. The verdict was pronounced on Tuesday.
