The Texas House of Representatives has officially passed a resolution recognizing March 23 as "Pakistan Day," a move that has sparked outrage among right-wing circles and MAGA supporters.

We now have an official 'Pakistan Day' in America.

Introduced by State Representative Dr. Suleman Lalani, the resolution acknowledges the contributions of Pakistani-Americans to Texas' economy, culture, and society.
Pakistan Day in Texas falls on the same date as the Pakistani holiday of the same name, which commemorates Pakistan's establishment as a sovereign Islamic republic. Texas is home to just over 100,000 Pakistani-Americans, the largest Pakistani population of any US state.
The move was largely symbolic, but that was enough to inspire outrage among staunch cultural nationalists who objected to honoring heritage of another country within US borders.
"This is the most un-American thing I've ever seen Texas do," one user fumed on X. Others decried it as "a betrayal of American values," while some linked it to a supposed "Democratic takeover" of the state. Some commenters invoked the Alamo, with one claiming, "Davy Crockett didn't die defending the Alamo for this."
Do you think Pakistan has an "America Day"?

I don't think so. I think Pakistan hates America and every single American.
But sure, let's celebrate Pakistan for all its accomplishments.
"America is under invasion and our politicians are holding open the doors," a user wrote above an AI-generated image of Chuck Schumer holding doors at the US Capitol open for a large group.

One comment accused Texas Republicans of being "leftists posing as Republicans," with others calling on Texas Governor Greg Abbott to intervene. "WTH is this!! Can you VETO this?" one Texan asked, tagging Abbott. Another appealed to Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows. "Don't you guys have better things to do?" conservative activist Robby Starbuck asked. "Voters didn't elect y'all to make up days to celebrate other countries. Get to work man."
I will NEVER acknowledge it, respect it, or celebrate it.

While the Lone Star state has a reputation for traditional values, it also ranks as the second most diverse state in the US, and the recognition of Pakistan Day is in line with similar resolutions honoring various cultural groups in Texas.
However, the move seems to contradict the Trump administration's hard-line stance against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and immigration. Neither Governor Abbott nor the White House have commented on Texas's latest calendar edit at this time.
