In less than 24 hours we will be able to enjoy the wonderful event organized by Macy's every year. Traditionally, the breathtaking Macy's 4th of July Firework Spectacular commemorates, since 1976, the independence of the United States.
According to the NY Post, Police Commissioner James O’Neill said the new fireworks set-up was created “so the [greatest] number of people can see it,” and it has nothing to do with security reasons. In 2016, Macy’s set up four barges on the East River between 23rd and 37th streets, along with a double barge that sent fireworks soaring near the Brooklyn Bridge.
This year 60,000 projectiles will light up the sky above five barges on the East River between 24th and 41st streets in Midtown, and although NBC will broadcast the show at 9:25 p.m., nothing better than watching it live if you are fortunate enough to be in New York.
The broadcast features some of the biggest names in music, including Jennifer Lopez, Lady Antebellum, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Charlie Puth and Hailee Steinfeld, and will be hosted by "American Ninja Warrior's" Akbar Gbajabiamila.
A Macy’s representative said 2017 fireworks display will be the biggest and brightest in years, and it will feature 10,000 more shells than last year and 23 new colors, including fuchsia, lemon and aqua, plus a sparkling new “golden-mile” grand finale.
The show is going to be so magical that we want to share with you all the details so you won't miss a single spark. Manhattan residents can get some of the best views at the East River Park and between 18th Street and 34th Street. Tickets for paid viewing options like Fourth of July Fireworks cruises are already on sale, but if you don’t want to make the journey into Manhattan there are plenty of spots in Brooklyn and Queens.
