A man was reportedly held hostage in his own pickup truck Saturday, Aug. 20, while one of his attackers hid a machete in his trunks.
The victim had reportedly headed to Edgewood Motel in Westbury where he was attacked and abducted. The man was reportedly held at knifepoint by his abductors and forced to give up his money, phone, and his keys, according to the New York Post.
The Nassau County police revealed that the alleged kidnappers subsequently pushed back the man into his vehicle and brought him to an ATM intending to get more money from the victim.
The robbery came to light after police officers pulled over a Ford F150 at 6:45 p.m. after it rolled through a stop sign. The authorities noted that one of the passengers, a 48-year-old man, had a troubled look on his face.
Responding to the anxious-looking passenger, the officers directed everyone to come out of the vehicle. One of the alleged abductors, Tylor Salmeron, reportedly started fleeing on foot while simultaneously throwing on the ground a big machete concealed from his trunks.
Police were able to catch up with him, along with the vehicle's driver, Yonathan Hernandez, 23, and a 16-year-old girl passenger whose name has not been disclosed. According to the police, Salmeron aggressively tussled with law enforcement during the arrest.
Hernandez has been charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree kidnapping, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree conspiracy, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and a vehicle traffic law infraction, reported the Daily Voice.
On the other hand, Salmeron faces first-degree robbery, second-degree kidnapping, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree conspiracy, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest raps.
Meanwhile, the 16-year-old girl was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree conspiracy, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Hernandez remains in custody on a US$100,000 cash bail. Bail for Salmeron was set at US$250,000. They will be back in Nassau County Court on Aug. 24, reported Westchester News12.
