Lupillo Rivera is always surrounded by controversy, usually pertaining to a scandal around his siblings. This latest brawl is actually for a good cause and in support of immigrants in California. The brother of the late singer Jenni Rivera, took a stand against an anti-immigration group known as the Know Nothings in Murrieta, California. About 200 protesters tried to block buses from allowing children out of the vehicle because they had come to the U.S. illegally. These immigrants were being transported from Texas to alleviate the overcrowding of their facilities. "We cannot worry about others when we can't take care of ourselves," Nancy Greyson, one of the protestors, said.
The atmosphere was tense and at one point one of the anti-immigrant activists spit on Rivera's face. The report claims that Lupillo maintained his cool. Rivera has kept his fans on the loop about all the happenings in Murrieta through his Facebook page. He shared a photo where a lady is screaming at his face (see above). "And they say that we lose control?" he captioned the picture. "That we are aggressive? Disrespectful? I had to control myself to show them that we only want to work." Rivera later wrote: "They have informed me that Murrieta authorities have moved the meeting that they were scheduled to have at Murrieta High where we were going to protest. There is nothing to be done and people will not be there."
Lupillo Rivera added: "We need to be awaiting and go to the key places. What was planned tomorrow is now canceled by them. I want to thank everyone that was there today. We made history! We are brave! We can't be taken advantage of anymore! The anti-immigrants didn't know we would cause such a ruckus! A big applause for everyone and congratulations for one more Latino accomplishment!" He later updated his page with a message directed to President Barack Obama where he suggested his fans cite the POTUS page and write the following: "Mr. Obama, where is our reform you promised us! Nuestra Voz Cuenta! (Our Voice Counts!)."
