Luna Lauren Velez has made quite a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Most known for her roles as Maria LaGuerta on Showtime's "Dexter" and Detective Nina Moreno on FOX's "New York Undercover", Velez is well on her way to the top. The star recently sat down to discuss her newest role on one of the top prime time television shows on ABC.
According to FOX News Latino, Luna Lauren Velez has been a huge fan of ABC's "How To Get Away With Murder" and since its release three seasons ago. Luckily for the star, her love for the show and her amazing talent has scored her a role on the show.
Velez who worked with Viola Davis in the past is completely enamored by her work as an actress and how she has made strides in the entertainment industry. After working with the Oscar-nominated actress in a play at the Roundabout Theatre in New York many years ago called “Intimate Apparel,” during which she fell in love with Davis’ prowess as an actress.
“She was so brilliant, she was just so amazing,” Velez said on Fox News Latino’s VIP Room recently. “I would watch her on stage, and I would go, ‘How can I learn from this incredible craftsperson?' Everything she does, she does with such commitment. It was brilliant to watch.”
With her love for Davis, you can imagine her shock and excitement once she learned she got a role on the coveted primetime show. After being offered the role of Middleton University president Soraya Hargrove, who goes toe-to-toe against Davis’ Annalise Keating, Velez was nothing but honored.
“I love this character because she’s different than most of the characters that I play, which are sort of overtly aggressive, powerful women,” Velez said. Soraya is an only child and comes from parents who are middle-class who push her to be her best and drive for excellence. She has this idea of perfection – everything in her life is perfect. Her job is perfect, her children are perfect, and that’s what really motivates her. She has reached the pinnacle of her career, but what we don’t know is all the stuff underneath.”
Make sure you tune in to "How To Get Away With Murder" Thursday nights on ABC to see Velez in action.
