The entertainment industry is mourning the death of a great Puerto Rican comedian. Luis Raúl died this morning after being hospitalized for 20 days following a bilateral pneumonia. Last week he agreed to be intubated to speed his recovery, but his condition worsened yesterday due to kidney failure and complications in his cardiac and respiratory systems. Ever since December, the comedian had experienced breathing problems that worsened as he attended personal and professional commitments in New York and Los Angeles. Luis Raúl attributed it to the cold season.
Numerous celebrities have joined in the sentiment and posted their condolences on their social media, proving once more that Luis Raúl was more than loved by many, and that Spanish comedy has truly lost one of the greatest. Daddy Yankee posted a picture on his Instagram account with Luis Raúl and captioned it, “Thanks for bringing happiness to the families of Puerto Rico, including mine. R.I.P Luis Raúl.”
Another fellow Puerto Rican, René Pérez from reggaeton group Calle 13, wrote “Just when I finish mixing a song about ‘Life’ I hear about the death of our friend and comedian @LuisRaulParao.” Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, who starred with Luis Raúl in the movie “200 Cartas” wrote in his Twitter account, “My heart cries the death of @LuisRaulParao. It was an honor to spend time with him. Thanks, primo.”
Tommy Torres added, “I’ll miss @LuisRaulParao, a great friend,” and Ednita Nazario said “Dear friend, I’ll miss you so much! But you will be in my heart forever. THANKS for your love! Farewell, my life! LUZ y AMOR!!” Major League Baseball star Yadier Molina posted a photo with the comedian and captioned it, “Que descanse en paz Luis Raúl!!!! RIP!! Luis Raúl!! great person, great friend!! gran persona, tremendo amigo!”
