Mexican songstress, Lucerito, wrote a heartfelt letter to his friend and colleague Joan Sebastián who lost his battle to cancer last night. Twitter

Just last week, Julián Figueroa, son of Joan Sebastian and Maribel Guardia, confirmed that his father had been hospitalized to the morning show “Hoy,” but insisted it was only because they were testing a new treatment on his dad but he was “in no great danger.” Sadly, last night, “The King of Jaripeo” lost his long battle with cancer and passed away in his ranch in Juliantla, Mexico, at the age of 64. It was a great loss for the entertainment community and celebrities were quick express their sadness and remember the legendary singer.

Lucerito joined her fellow entertainers with a heartfelt letter written to Sebastian on her website. “Today, I have no words to express the sadness I feel that you’ve left us,” she began. “I had the enormous fortune to have known you and to have shared your songs, your love for life, your willingness to share your joy and your unstoppable strength.” The songstress went on to remember the anecdotes they shared and said “millions of souls are crying in his absence, hoping he knows he will always be remembered.

“The true luxury was to have your friendship,” she exclaimed. “You leave us ‘Tatuajes’ in every corner of our souls,” said Lucerito alluding to one of his hit songs. The singer explained she was far from Mexico and unable to give her condolences to his family, but was sending them light and asking God to give them peace. “Have a good trip my ‘Golondrina Viajera,’ my admired poet, keep flying as high as only you know how to,” Lucerito concluded.
