Univision viewers were shocked this week when it was confirmed that Lourdes Stephen had exited the network after hosting shows like "Sal y Pimienta" and "Despierta América". There's no official word if the television personality was fired or her contract not renewed, but Stephen has broke her silence on Instagram and confirmed the news that she is no longer working at the Spanish-language network. "My dear family I want to tell you that after 15 years my cycle with Univision has closed," she said in a brief video statement. "I want to firstly thank God that has always guided my steps throughout this wonderful chapter in my professional career."
"To you, the public, thank you for your support and for allowing me to inform you and entertain you in the different platforms," she added. "Thanks to you all for being here as without you, this doesn't make sense. Thank you for giving me the privilege of serving you, which was always my objective. You have shared with me my pregnancy, the birth of my baby, I really do love you all."
Although Lourdes doesn't share why she left the network she does say what she will be up to now with the extra free time. "To my co-workers, thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn from you all," she continued. "To my superiors, the ones that are here and the ones that are gone, thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow and to making me the professional that I am today. Thank you for believing in me. Now I am going to take time to do the most important job of my life, being a mom. You and I will be in touch through here and I will soon give you more news." It was almost a year ago when "Sal y Pimienta" ended abruptly that prompted speculation that Lourdes Stephen was being let go from the network. The television host remained at the network and started hosting a segment on the "Despierta América" morning show called "Sin Rollos Ni Tapujos" where a group of people gathered around a table to discuss hot issues in pop culture. The segment became one of the most popular parts of the show that it was spun-off as its own show later on.
At the time "Sal y Pimienta" was canceled on Univision Lourdes's future came into question by users on social media after her husband attacked Univision news anchor Jorge Ramos, following Donald Trump's election victory. Michael Víctor Puchades wrote: "Life, marriage and justice won. Thank you Lord for all of your glory. In God We Trust. God Bless America." A Twitter user screenshot the message and sent it to Stephen. That same user later questioned "why would you let your husband put in doubt the credibility of your channel?"
The Univision host didn't directly respond to her husband's words as she said she could only answer for words coming from her and not from someone else. "Today God has put in my heart these words to share with you," she wrote. "As a mother and immigrant that I am, I understand the fright and uncertainty that a lot of us feel, because I am part of this community that I have proudly served for 14 years with respect. I can't speak for anyone, and nobody speaks for me, we aren't responsible of anyone else's actions, but for my own and my message is that we need to come together in love. We need to work together because we are all a family and pray to God that everything turns out well."
