A Missouri man's forgotten lunch turned out to be his lucky break, leading him to an unexpected $3 million lottery win.

After his wife called to tell him he'd left his lunch at home, he decided to stop by a Schnucks grocery store in Arnold, Missouri, to pick something up. Little did he know that this detour would turn into a life-changing moment.

On a whim, he purchased a $30 "Millionaire Bucks" Scratchers ticket.

"I normally don't play the $30 tickets," he told MOLottery, "But since I had $60 that I had won earlier on some other Scratchers tickets, I thought, 'Why not?'"

As he scanned the ticket, the screen displayed "Lottery Winner." Initially, he was in disbelief.

"I was completely surprised! I didn't think I had won!" As he looked closer, he was shocked by "all the zeros."

He called his wife, excited to share the news, but his reputation as a prankster made her skeptical.

"I like to play jokes. It took a little convincing for her to believe me!" he laughed.

This lucky win adds to the over $40.6 million Missouri Lottery prizes won by Jefferson County players in fiscal year 2024.

Local retailers also benefited, with more than $3.9 million in commissions, while over $2.7 million in lottery proceeds supported county education programs.
