Enrique Capitaine, (pictured above, far left) one of the young men accused of raping Daphne Fernández last year, was arrested in Coahuila, Mexico, sources confirmed last week.
According to Milenio.com, Enrique Capitaine was spotted at a Starbucks located in San Isidro, Torreón on May 11, and was immediately taken into custody.
Yesterday, Enrique Capitaine’s mother, Jaqueline Marín Lara, organized a protest to defend her son’s innocence, alleging that authorities and journalists are being paid to act against the young men and that this has become a political issue.
“Miguel Angel Yunes has paid the media to inculpate him. The state has been behind all of this. In Mexico, PAN [political party] is moving all of you, reporters,” she said about the way the press has handled her son’s case.
The protest took place on Tuesday, in anticipation to Enrique Capitaine’s sentence, with signs that read, “Daphne, say the truth and it will be ok,” or, “They are innocent!”
Last month, the PGR (Procuraduría General de la República) released a statement announcing that they were working with the Interpol and that a red notice was issued in order to catch the aggressors overseas. Jorge Cotaita and Diego Cruz Alonso are still M.I.A.
During an interview with Radio Fórmula’s Ciro Gómez Leyva, Enrique Captaine’s father, Felipe Capitaine, declared he is doing everything in his power to prove his son’s innocence and is asking for a re-examination of the happenings.
“The District Attorney’s Office is taking action because someone [Daphne] is accusing him, but they don’t have any sort of proof. There is nothing that can prove that the crime was actually committed,” Felipe Captaine told the press.
Recent reports disclosed that Enrique Capitaine has already been translated to Playa Linda’s prison in the state of Veracruz, where he is expected to deliver his side of the story before the authorities.
