Fifteen months ago, Daphne Fernández was raped by four young men identified as Enrique Capitaine, Gerardo Rodríguez, Diego Cruz Alonso, and Jorge Cotaita, better known by the Mexican media as “Los Porkys,” in Veracruz, Mexico. State authorities have failed to follow up with the case since the report was filed 11 months ago, nearly two months after the crime was committed.
Daphne’s father, Javier Fernández, sat down with Jorge Ramos for an interview on Univision’s “Al Punto,” where he narrated what these kids did to his daughter, and expressed his frustration with Veracruz’s law system and its way of protecting individuals just because of their socioeconomic status.
“She was leaving the club and then she was taken against her will,” Fernández told Ramos. “She was forced to get in a car with these four individuals. You already know their names […]. And they take her against her will, they drive away, and on their way to their destination they begin to sexually assault her. They later take her to a house, where they consummate the act.”

During the interview, Fernández reveals that Enrique Capitaine is the only one who forced himself into his daughter once they arrived in the house, but graphically indicates that the other kids participated with other forms of assault during the ride.
“I’m going to kill them,” Fernández confesses was his first reaction when his daughter finally decided to speak about what had happened to her in January 2015. He continues by revealing that he turned to a good friend of his, Ricardo Fernández, who also happened to be friends with the families of two of the boys involved, and talked him into not saying anything.
According to Fernández, the four boys and their fathers agreed to meet up with him on April 28, 2015 to discuss the happenings and get to an agreement about their punishment. The recording of the meeting went viral in March 2016, after almost a year of asking for justice and not getting anywhere.
“I am sure there is impunity,” Fernández discloses. “And this is the reflection of hundreds, or thousands of cases that have yet to obtain justice.”
We first heard about “Los Porkys” about a year ago, when the body of Columba Campillo González was found lifeless in an empty lot located in Los Delfines, a neighborhood in Boca del Río, Veracruz, a state that has been labeled as “The State Without Law” by Proceso magazine.
“Every time they ask me, ‘what would you say to them [state authorities]?’ the frustrated father tells Ramos. “Just to take a look at the file and execute the law as it is marked. They committed a crime, and they have to pay for it.”
El Universal reports two of the accused have already fled the country.
