Aircraft accidents have been making headlines over the past weeks due to high-profile crashes that included one between a passenger jet and an army helicopter, a plane that flipped over after landing, and a plane that went down in Alaska. On Wednesday the list got longer after fatalities were reported following a mid-air collision involving two planes at Marana Regional Airport in Arizona.
The topic is dominating headlines due to the nature of the crashes, as well as the Trump administration's decision to begin firing hundreds of Federal Aviation Administration employees.
Preliminary data from the National Transportation Safety Board, however, shows that January was the safest year in at least over 40 years for aircraft, with 63 accidents. February is on track to emulate the achievement with 31. But as the issue remains present in the national conversation, here's a look at the most high-profile incidents since Trump took office.

February 12: A fishing crew in the San Diego Bay rescued the two pilots who ejected from the military jet that crashed into the water moments later.
February 15: Two people who were onboard a single-engine aircraft died last Saturday night after the plane crashed into the woods. The police department said the plane left Covington Municipal Airport at around 11:00 pm and came down shortly after at 11:21 p.m.
