With Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who played Iron Man and Captain America, out of the Avengers circle, War Machine becomes the longest-serving hero in the mix. But similar to Downey and Evans, how long does Don Cheadle plan to play the part?
In an interview with Kevin Polowy of Yahoo! Entertainment, the 57-year-old actor addressed that and explained that he was just taking projects as they come.
Cheadle will be reprising his role as War Machine in “Armor Wars,” something he said that he agreed to because it piqued his interest and sounded fun. Further, it appears this will be the standard he will follow moving forward as far as portraying the Marvel hero.
"I just kinda take it as it lies, you know what I mean? [Armor Wars] is something that was pitched to me, was something they wanted to do, and it was interesting and sounded fun. An opportunity to actually do more with this character. So yeah, I'm in,” Cheadle said.
The veteran actor admits that there will be more similar opportunities coming in the future. If future roles or scripts fail to capture his attention, Cheadle appears to hint that he could pass on it.
“You know, at this point... we know there's going to be more opportunities to do it, nobody's [twisting] anybody's arm. It's like, does this sound like something that would be fun? Is this something where we could really do something that is exciting and is interesting? Cause if not, we don't need to show up,” he explained.
“Armor Wars,” a War Machine series, is expected to start filming in the fall. It will consist of six episodes and the plot remains unknown.
Regardless, “Armor Wars” is expected to tackle the same one in the Marvel Comics series tied to Tony Stark’s Iron Man technology falling into the wrong hands.
As of this writing, it has yet to be announced who will star alongside Cheadle.
