There is a lot to expect this year from Apple and part of that is the next line of MacBooks. A lot has been said in recent weeks from the rumor mill and there is another one from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo suggests that Apple could be coming out with a MacBook with an OLED display before 2024 comes to a close. He adds that this could lead to diverse form factor changes as well.
The changes in form factor are understandable. Considering OLED displays would pave the way for potentially thinner MacBook compared to the LED-backed ones available right now.
And while this is welcome news for MacBook users, there are details left hanging in the air. That includes the kind of MacBook that would be first using the OLED displays.
Recall that another analyst, Ross Young, back in June, Apple would be releasing a 13-inch OLED MacBook Air in 2024. It has yet to be confirmed if this is the same unit that Kuo is hinting at.
While that is something to watch for in 2024, all eyes are on whether the Cupertino company would come out with a MacBook Air this year.
Apple is expected to release new products in 2023 and Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggested that one of them may potentially be a 15-inch MacBook Air.
But like Kuo, Gurman did not provide additional details. The only thing he did mention is that Apple suppliers will begin the production of 15.5-inch display panels for the MacBook Air by the first quarter of 2023.
Tied to that, Gurman also claims that the rumored 12-inch MacBook with Apple Silicon is unlikely to launch this year.
As far as design, the MacBooks possibly coming out this year are likely to be released with little iterations.
The reason behind this is that Apple came out with a redesigned version in 2022, a reason why the previously released 13-inch model specs will remain. Hence, it is possible that the MacBooks, if they do come, may be available in M2 and M2 Pro chips.
