UPDATE: The British soldier brutally killed in London was 25-year-old Lee Rigby.

The two men accused of hacking and beheading a British solider with cleavers in London were reportedly previously investigated by security services. British officials confirmed on Thursday that officials were investigating if the two suspects were a part of a large terrorist organization within London.

The two men are accused of literally hacking an off-duty solider to death on the streets of London while horrified bystanders witnessed the atrocity. The men then gave reasons for their violent acts, promised more violence, threatened the British government and then strangely apologized to witnesses.

"We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you," the man declared, complaining about British troops fighting Muslims. "We must fight them as they fight us."

Still grasping bloody knives and meat cleaver within blood soaked hands, they then waited for the arrival of the police. Upon police arrival, the two men refused to drop their bloodied weapons and were shot in the legs before being detained and arrested.

The attack took place near a military barracks in the Woolwich area of south London.

A British official revealed that both suspects were part of previous security services investigations for possible terror links. The Huffington Post reported that investigations by the British security service, MI5, includes surveillance, phone tapping and communication intercepts.

This is not the first terrorist attack that Britain has faced. In fact, Britain, and more specifically London, has found itself at the center of several terrorist plots in recent years. In 2005, during a rush-hour suicide bombing, 52 commuters were killed. More recently, Parviz Khan was convicted in 2008 of plotting to kidnap and behead a British Muslim soldier in Birmingham.
