Loki, the God of Mischief, is well known for his tricks and wits. It’s hard to keep count of the number of times Loki has tricked his death throughout the multiple phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The title card at the end of episode six in season one of the Marvel Disney Plus original series ‘Loki’ confirmed that the Trickster God (Tom Hiddleston) is indeed returning for season two.
The streaming platform set a new record with the opening episode of season one by accumulating an estimated 731 million minutes of viewing time.
The season one showed us a time-variant version of the God of Mischief. And in the finale episode which was released on July 14, the makers confirmed Loki’s return during a mid-credit scene when a variant case file is shown before somebody stamps it with a message that read "Loki will return in season 2."
Fans have been eagerly waiting to know more about the upcoming excitements in the hit show.
To start with, Kate Herron will not be directing the new season. She revealed this in an interview with ELLE.
“I'm really proud to have been part of Loki's story. I gave it everything in my heart and my soul. I'm excited to see what fresh eyes will bring,” she said.
Now when it comes to the cast, Disney has not yet announced who will return for the second season.
However, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie as well as Owen Wilson's Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Ravonna Renslayer, and Wunmi Mosaku's Hunter B-15 is expected to come back.
Jonathan Majors could reprise his role as He Who Remains/Kang the Conqueror.
The finale episode saw Loki and Sylvie encountering the eccentric He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), who reveals that he created the character in order to protect the universe from multiple versions of his own, including Kang the Conqueror.
The conclusion also gave us a glimpse of the Multiverse, where certain characters including Mobius do not recognize the God of Mischief in an alternate version of the Time Variance Authority that has been taken over by Kang the Conqueror.
Digital artist, “Mizuri” recently shared an earth-shattering artwork of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror on Instagram.
Speaking to Marvel.com, head writer Michael Waldron reacted to Majors’ stunning appearance. "Knowing that Kang was probably going to be the next big cross-movie villain, and because he is a time-traveling, multiversal adversary, it just always made so much sense,” he said.
“I came up with that big multiversal war mythology and pitched it out in the room one day to our producers. And they said, ‘Yeah, let's go for it.’ We knew we were going to end up meeting the man behind the curtain. And then it was just on us to make sure that that meeting really delivered.”
Disney has yet to confirm an official release date for season 2, but it is expected that the next season would come out before or in 2023.
Now that everything has changed, we're all wondering: What comes next?
