Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has returned to training in preparation for the team's Champions League semifinal match with Bayern Munich, according to FOX Sports.

Messi, the 2013 Argentine World Player of the Year was injured on April 2 and has only been used as a substitute when needed.

"Messi is with the team and he is able to compete, although that's a decision for the coaching staff," Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta posted on the Barcelona team website.

While Messi is expected to start against Munich Tuesday according to ESPN, he was absent for Saturday's 1-0 win over Levante in La Liga action.

With multiple World Player of the Year honors, it's no secret that Messi is vital to the success of the Barcelona squad moving forward.

In 29 La Liga games this season, the 25-year-old has scored 43 goals on 151 shot attempts and has delivered 11 assists. Barcelona's last two Champions League matches, both against PGS, saw Messi take the field for a total of only 74 minutes, registering one goal on two shot attempts.

Barcelona is hoping to get much more from their star player come Tuesday.

The winner of the semifinal series between Barcelona and Bayern Munich will face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the final.

Barcelona last won the Champions League title during the 2010-2011 season when they defeated Manchester United. They'll look to take one step closer to the club's fifth title in history on Tuesday when they meet Bayern Munich.

The match is set to begin at 2:45pm from Bayer Munich's home field Allianz Arena.
