Since joining the Barcelona top squad in 2004, Lionel Messi has become one of the best and most consistent footballers in the world. Despite injury, the 25-year-old superstar was able to guide Barcelona to the 2012-2013 La Liga title, the clubs 22nd championship in 81 years of existence.
Battling a recurring hamstring injury for the last month, Yahoo Sports is reporting that Messi's league season could be over since he will miss anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks because of the hurt hamstring.
Messi sustained his current injury in the Champions League quarterfinals against Paris St Germain last month and hasn't been the same since. Despite their top player playing with pain, Barcelona was able to advance to the 2013 Champions League semifinals where they'd eventually fall to Bayern Munich.

Undergoing a scan this morning according to The Independent, the Barcelona club issued a statement updating the World Player of the Year's status.
"Tests this Tuesday morning showed that Leo Messi has an elongation in the femoral biceps in his right leg," a statement posted on the Barca website said. "The expected absence is two to three weeks. How the injury evolves will determine the player's availability for future games."
Already one of the greatest players in the rich history of Barcelona soccer, Messi was in obvious pain last Sunday when he limped off the field with slightly over 22 minutes remaining in Barca's win over Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona clinched their fourth league title in five seasons this year and while they're not expected to have Messi for their next game on May 19 against Valladolid, FOX Sports reports that Messi should be available when his native Argentina begins their World Cup Qualifying matches in June.

The injury comes at a tough time personally for the football icon, however, as Messi was on the brink of a record-breaking season.
