One of the top players in the world, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi continues to excite soccer fans across the globe with his electrifying skills and unique ability to score goals. Though he consistently battles injury, the four-time Ballon d'Or award winner remains at the top of his game since he is able to overcome physical adversity when his clubs need him the most. Registering 14 goals and 4 assists in 15 total matches with Barca this season, Messi has shown once again that even through injury he is capable of putting a team on his back and while he remains a strong threat to the opposition on a game-by-game basis, the international superstar may not be nearing another pay day anytime soon.

According to ESPN FC, Barcelona vice president Javier Faus has no plans to sign Leo Messi to a fresh contract even though interational rival Cristiano Ronaldo and Barca teammate Neymar earn more than the forward. Messi - who recently led Argentina to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil - signed a new agreement with Barca in February, a deal worth nearly 12.5 million euros per year and runs through 2018. Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid earns over 20 million euros a year while Neymar - a rising 21-year-old Brazilian star - earns nearly 9 million, with his family reportedly receiving 40 million of the 74 million transfer euros from the player transfer to Camp Nou.

Faus however, has remained true to his stance that there is absolutely no need to rush another contract to the table since Messi was re-signed six months ago. Understanding that Messi would like to be the highest paid player in the world, Faus does not feel the need to draw up another document at the present time. "I do not know why we have to do it again," Faus said recently. "We do not have to improve a contract every six months."

With his star player continuing to battle thigh problems, it's no wonder Faus is in no rush to give Leo Messi a new offer, especially since he was recently presented with a new offer back in February.

Messi's recovery process is reportedly going well and higher-ups at Camp Nou believe he'll re-join his squad in early January, once the rehabilitation schedule in Argentina comes to a close.
