Paris-Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé worked in harmony on Friday to defeat Ajaccio.
Messi, who faced struggles in his debut year at PSG, continued his excellent start to the season on Friday night. After his PSG debut last year, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner rediscovered his Barcelona form. Messi got his goalscoring touch back, and he has also reaffirmed his status as one of the world’s best playmakers by constantly supplying ammunition for Neymar and Mbappé, reported Givemesport.
Messi's 2022/23 campaign brilliance was illustrated by his performance at the Estadio François-Coty. He was involved in all of PSG's goals in a 3-0 victory. Messi dribbled through midfield and then played a one-two with Juan Bernat. He was on the left-hand corner of the box. Then Messi switched the ball to Mbappé, reported CNN. With a backheel flick, Mbappé found the Argentine star again, this time inside the box. Then Messi rounded the goalkeeper and tapped the ball into the net. In the 78th minute, PSG took a 2-0 lead against Ajaccio with that goal.
The team eventually won 3-0. The victory came after a brace from Mbappé along with Messi’s superb goal.
PSG’s head coach Christophe Galtier told reporters after the match that obviously, people come to the stadium to see Messi, "the PSG team, Kylian." He shared that he says it often, but (Messi) is "one of the best players in the history of football." The coach said that he "loves to play for others, has a great relationship with the ball and he is very selfless.”
In the first season with PSG, Messi scored just four goals in 23 league games. He scored six goals in the opening 11 games. He also contributed nine assists this season.
Twitter exploded after watching Messi and Mbappé performing so well on Friday. One Twitter user noted that Mbappé scored two goals and one assist while Messi scored one goal and two assists, according to Sportskeeda. The user praised the "outstanding performance from this duo today, chemistry was sharp." Another noted that PSG might just have scored the "best ‘team goal’ I’ve seen all season long. Incredible from Messi and Mbappé."
