Liam Payne's family has officially made the decision to sue those they believe are responsible for his death.
The family's legal team appeared in court in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday to initiate legal action against anyone who may have contributed to the tragic passing of the British artist and singer, who rose to fame as a member of One Direction.
Richard Bray, an experienced attorney in the music industry, is handling the case as Liam's parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, seek justice for their son's death.
Prosecutors have recently charged two hotel employees and a friend of Liam's in connection with the incident. However, this marks the first time the singer's family has decided to pursue legal action against additional parties.
A source close to the family revealed that Geoff and Karen are "100% determined" to seek justice. Devastated by their loss, they are searching for answers as to how the circumstances surrounding Liam's death were allowed to escalate to such a fatal outcome.
What prompted this decision?
Surveillance footage from the Buenos Aires hotel where Payne died reportedly shows three hotel staff carrying his nearly unconscious body. According to TMZ, they picked him up in a informal and crude manner to lock him in his room and prevent him from returning to the hotel bar.
The outlet further reported that the singer had been trying to escape his room, but despite the staff being aware of this, they left him alone. Although 911 was called for urgent assistance, it was not enough to save Liam's life.
Evidence suggests that Payne may have been attempting to flee his room, potentially giving a motive for the fall. This raises even more questions about the hotel staff's accountability in the matter.
As a result of this apparent negligence, the parents of the "Story of My Life" singer will now play an active role in any future legal proceedings related to his death and continue to seek justice for their son.
