Sebastián Rulli was recently visiting Matamoros, Tamaulipas, where he was crowned as the “King of the Sea” in an event at the Costa Azul beach, called Festival del Mar Matamoros 2014. This festival was a week-long affair, where families could go and enjoy the beach, concerts, Dj’s, and many recreational activities as well as sport competitions. Rulli was “crowned” on Saturday, by mayor Leticia Salazar at the stage in front of 100,000 people, according to the event’s organizers.
“In Matamoros, we are very happy to crown for the first time a king of the sea. Sebastián, welcome. This is your home,” said Salazar. Rulli seemed very happy about the honors and took the microphone to express his gratitude. He said he loved the color blue, adding, “water is blue, the seashore is blue, everything is blue. I’m very happy to be here. Thank you so much for the invitation. People here are extremely warm and welcoming.”
However, what set fire in social media was a selfie that Salazar posted with Rulli. “At the get together with the King of the Sea Matamoros 2014 Sebastián Rulli in our beautiful beach, Costa Azul,” the mayor captioned the pic. After the photo went up, it generated a divided opinion. Some were praising both the mayor and the actor: “My beautiful mayor and my beautiful king, I love you Rulli,” said one user. Another one added, “Both of you are gorgeous.” While a third went on to say, “Congratulations mayor!”
Nevertheless, not all was happiness and approval. Some people took the opportunity to remind the mayor about the event’s logistics and how they should’ve facilitated other routes to get there and leave the event. “You should see the chaos that is leaving this event. More than 2 hours waiting in traffic,” tweeted a user replying to the selfie. “A real mess,” added another user, and “She should be working for the safety of Matamoros,” tweeted a third.
Meanwhile, Rulli posted another selfie with the mayor and captioned it: “It’s wonderful how the people love you Leticia Salazar!!! Bravo Matamoros.”
