Dancing with the Stars has only one Latina standing after the elimination of Lele Pons this week. Three Latino contestants had began the contest: last week the audience saw Mauricio Umansky make his exit on "Monster Night" and, after Pons' departure,Xochitl Gomez is the only one left.
This week the contestants on the show paid tribute to the most iconic music videos of all time in their "Music Video Night". "Slave 4 You" by Brtiney Spears, "Take on Me" by A-ha, "All For You" by Janet Jackson, and "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John were among the songs that were danced to.
Lele Pons performed to her idol Shakira's "Whenever, Wherever" and got a score of 33 out of 40 from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, as well as special guest judge Paula Abdul. She was able to add an extra 40 points to the first round score due to team challenges.
After the elimination, Pons' dance partner, Brandon Armstrong, said: "That one burns. I don't think Lele should have been going home."
Pons expressed to Good Morning America after the two hour show, "It sucks because of my friends, and Brandon, and I'm not gonna see them. But I had a good experience."
Now that the Venezuelan viral star has left the dance floor, Xochitl Gomez is the last standing Latina contestant in the competition. The Marvel actress has been a top contender throughout the season alongside her dance partner Chmerkovskiy.
Even though the Mexican-American had a wardrobe malfunction when performing to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" leaving her with a score of 34 out of 40, Gomez and Chmerkovskiy have been one of the top leading duos throughout the show. On this week's episode she said: "It's really hard. You can't control things. I was a bit sad about it because it's such an iconic part of having the hat." Adding on to the malfunction, Xochitl seemed to have hurt her foot in the middle of performing her routine last week for monster night.
As the competition gets close to the finale, there are still several other theme nights ahead of us such as Taylor Swift night and Whitney Houston Night. 'Dancing with the Stars' is available to stream on Disney Plus, Hulu, and live on ABC every Tuesday at 8 pm.
