The CW's "Legends of Tomorrow" has made its casting for the role of Vixen for its upcoming second season.
According to Den of Geek, "The Originals" Maisie Richardson-Sellers will play Amaya Jiwe. This character is a modern Vixen and Mari McCabe's grandmother. As many fans know, Vixen receives her abilities from an animal-power-granting totem that has been passed down through her family. And as McCabe's grandmother, Jiwe will have this same totem and same powers.
Previously, Megalyn E.K. played Vixen as both the voice in The CW Seed animated series as well as making a live action guest appearance on "Arrow" Season 4. The character was well received as Mari McCabe, but E.K.'s schedule has prevented her from reprising the role for the second season, though she will still provide the voice of her animated character. While the show is not replacing Vixen, the new casting makes it possible for E.K. to reprise the role when her schedule opens up.
Meanwhile, this Vixen character can be aligned with an earlier-announced Season 2 regular role, which was described as:
"The female member of an elite paramilitary team living in the 1940s. An African-American, she is scrutinized in her time for both her gender and race and thus has worked twice as hard to be a perfect soldier. That said, she blames herself for — and aims to avenge — the death of a team member for whom she had repressed feelings."
Furthermore, we also know that Nick Zano will join the cast as Dr. Nate Heywood, one of several new heroic characters added to replace Ciara Renee and Falk Hentschel's Kendra and Carter Hall. As per Screen Crush, Patrick J. Adams will likely appear as Hourman, following his arrival in the first season finale.
"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" will premiere on Thursday, Oct.13.
