Atlanta-based Australian rapper Amethyst Amelia Kelly, better known as Iggy Azalea, released her new single “Sip It” on Friday, April 2. Soon after the release of the song, the rapper shared a few screenshots of indecent proposals from celebrities with millions of followers. The gross messages show men offering money simply to have a conversation with the artist.
On her TikTok account, Azalea shared a short video of her dancing to a morphed version of her song “Sip It”. In the background, there are fast-moving screenshots of Instagram direct messages (DM) from various people. From professing love to highly descriptive inappropriate messages, the rapper's DMs seem to be filled with a plethora of unwanted messages.
In her song, Azalea raps the line “Rappers in my phone, in my DM, won't leave me alone.” The TikTok released by her is proof of the mention she makes in the music video for which she collaborated with Tyga.
In the TikTok video, some of the messages seem to have accepted the message request from her courters. That does not seem to have prevented them from sending love-struck or thirsty messages to the artist. While Azalea blurred out the names of the senders, the blue ticks showing that their accounts were verified could be seen. Many of these men have followers in the millions, the Daily Mail pointed out.
One man seemed to profess his love for Azalea with a string of messages with just the words “I love you”. Other messages were not as romantic. Some of the messages were explicit as they were men elaborating what they wanted to do sexually with the rapper.
One of the creepy men even offered her $15,000 to talk, the Rap-up reported. In his messages, he acknowledged that the famous rapper did not need money but he respected that her time is valuable. So, he offered the amount to simply have a conversation with her.
A few men even proposed to the rapper claiming that they could be a better partner than Playboi Carti. Azalea and Carti broke up last year and have a one-year-old son together.
Following the release of the TikTok video, it has been as popularly discussed as her new singles. The flashy, colorful video featuring the rapper and other dancers twerking amassed more than 4 million views in just five days. She also released another single “Brazil”. The second single does not have the eyeball grabbing visuals of “Sip It”.
