Julian Gil is an model, actor and tv presenter better known for his villainous roles in telenovelas like "La Que No Podía Amar" and "Sortilegio." In real life, he is the complete opposite, he is a role model for creating consciousness in living a greener life, a father of two and a hard working figure that doesn't give up.
The actor spoke with Latin Times exclusively about his involvement with Toyota Latino and his influence on living a greener lifestyle.
"I am thrilled and thankful to have been considered for this campaign by Toyota," Julian told LatinTimes.com "It is a great award for all that we've been doing during these last few years as it is a reflection of my own lifestyle; living healthier and creating consciousness to my family, kids and the public in general."
Living greener and is not always an easy task. Many people believe that only the rich and famous can have the luxury of recycling, but as the the "Nuestra Belleza Latina" judge tells us, it is about creating a habitual routine and making small changes what ultimately matters.
"It's not difficult to recycle, what you need to do is create a habit. Once you start to know what is good and what is bad, we do it in a more natural away day by day and it becomes a routine. It is like waking up in the morning and brushing your teeth, when you apply it to your lifestyle it becomes easier as time goes by."
Julian also adds, "In my home I try to seperate trash by type and try to consume as little energy as possible. Before I used to leave the water running for an extensive amount of time and now I only use it when it's necessary. Through Toyota and their hybrid vehicles we are trying to impact people's lives and sending out this message to help out the planet."
For the Puerto Rican thespian, moving to the U.S. was a matter of looking for better opportunities. Although it is much easier for Puerto Rican's to live in America as it is a U.S. territory, Julian knows what it's like to feel alone in a foreign country as he often has to travel for work.
"First of all, as Latinos we should feel proud that we are one of the major labor forces that the U.S. has. For every Latino it is difficult and complicated because the customs are different and when you initially arrive it can be hard to adapt. But once you become accustom, everything starts to flow. The United States is a country that has great opportunities. I feel proud of being a Latino and to live in the U.S. The United States values all the hard work and every thing that Latinos do."
The now 43-year-old actor moved to the states at the age of 15 as the family decided to look for better opportunities.
"It was a family decision. Arriving at the age of 15, it was difficult, we had to work hard and follow our dreams. Passion, discipline and love and you will get what you dream of."
Over the past years Julian Gil has travel to countries like Spain, Peru, Colombia and Mexico following his dreams as an actor and gaining notoriety with every new character that he tackles.
"I have worked the last eight years in many countries and they have been great opportunities. One takes their suitcase full of dreams and everything is worthwhile."
One thing that the lead actor of Valientes misses when he is away are his family and good.
"Family, food, traditions is what you value the most when you are in another country. Sometimes you are away and you get a certain odor that reminds you of home and your family."
As we can see, family is very important to Gil as he has two children, 25 year-old Nicolle and 17-year-old Julian Jr. As a proud father he wants to set a good example for them. He has taught them that "you need to fight for your dreams" and that "life is not easy and you need to work to reach your goals and they see that it's true as they see their father doing well."
Earlier this year Julian finished wrapping up a remake of "La Usurpadora" that was shot in Colombia. The telenovela started airing in the U.S. only to have it yanked after two weeks of airing.
"The decision of pulling ¿Quién Eres Tú? was from the high ranks at Univision. It was not what any of us expected and I don't have details as to why they did it. I can tell you that it is currently airing in over ten countries and it has been doing very well."
Julian is currently busy in Miami filming a new series titled "Los Secretos de Lucia" in which he co-stars with Iran Castillo.
"We are filming the second phase of this co-production between Venevision and Univision. I play an undercover agent that is involved in many action sequences. The great part of this character is that he finds himself in crossroads when he finds love and he has to choose between acting on that feeling or being professional and keeping his eye on the target. It is a very well-rounded character with a rollercoaster of emotions."
"Los Secretos de Lucia" is slated to premiere in Venezuela in September and will son air on the Univision network.
